Study in the U.S.A. - Northeast (in English) - ISEP Exchange
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
• Get outside and enjoy the fresh air—from snowshoeing to canoeing to hiking; Maine offers something for every type of outdoor adventurer all year round.
• Immerse yourself in coursework that directly ties into the region such as biology, environmental science, engineering, psychology, and business at an R1 research university with NECHE, AACSB, and ABET accreditations.
• With a student population of 10,500 students and roughly 800 international students, UMaine is the state’s largest public university, and it has the facilities to show for it including a health clinic, counseling center, sports arenas, and a large performance center.
LIVE AND DINE
Live on campus in a residence hall within walkable distance to all academic buildings. In the residence hall, you’ll share a double room with one other student and a communal single-gender bathroom with the other students on your floor.
As an ISEP Exchange student, you’ll receive an unlimited meal plan which you can use at any of the dining halls on campus. There are also several fast casual options for dining on campus, including Starbucks and the “Bear Bites” food truck.
Don’t miss out on the local delicacies either. With its proximity to the coast, Maine is famous for lobster, often enjoyed as a classic lobster roll, as well as fresh clams and mussels, which are commonly served steamed or fried. When blueberries are in season from late July to early September, be sure to grab a slice of blueberry pie or snag a jar of blueberry jam to satisfy your cravings during the off season!
EXPERIENCE
Explore this unique region of the U.S. through excursions offered by UMaine. Past excursions included trips to Acadia National Park, Baxter State Park, Portland, Camden, a maple sugar shack visit, and so much more.
Get involved by joining one of the 230+ student organizations. Connect with the campus community through coordinated activities and events, ranging from a weekly International Coffee Hour where you can share your culture and learn about others to larger seasonal celebrations like Halloweekend, the Winter Carnival, Culturefest, and the International Dance Festival.
ACADEMIC TRAINING
Students studying abroad in the United States have the opportunity to participate in an Academic Training Internship that directly relates to their field of study at their ISEP host institutions. Learn more about Academic Training in the United States.
Volunteer
Give back to the community during your time at UMaine. Participate in the campus-wide “Maine Day of Service” event, a longstanding tradition during which you and your fellow Black Bears will clean up campus and prepare meals for community members. Head to the Bodwell Center to discover additional volunteer opportunities throughout the semester and find out how you can get involved with on-campus programs such as the Black Bear Exchange food pantry and the Black Bear youth mentorship program.
