As an ISEP student, you can build your own program by choosing your courses from a variety of fields. Use the notes for course searching to help you find which courses are available.

Course Description

Students will submit their course request list and Bristol will review this once a placement is made.   Comments will be made regarding the coursework in the ISEP acceptance letter.  Students will be contacted by the Global Opportunities Team if there are any major issues with the requested courses.  Please note that we cannot guarantee units for students at the application stage and that your units (classes) will be finalised when you arrive in Bristol.

Semester 1 examination periods may clash with the start of semester 2 in the U.S.  STEM fields cannot be flexible with examination dates and will require you to take this in person. Please contact the Global Opportunities team at Bristol if you are unable to stay for the January exams. The following fields of study can sometimes allow you to take an additional essay in order to leave on time for the start of semester 2 in the U.S.:

Archaeology/Anthropology

Drama and Film Studies

Music

Philosophy

Art History

Classics

History

English Lit

Religious Studies

Economics, Finance, Management

*Please disregard "Open Unit Status" when searching for courses on the "Course Availability Webpage."  This will not dictate the availability of a course to incoming ISEP students.

Special Application Instructions

INTERNAL APPLICATION PROCEDURE - To be submitted with ISEP Application

Please go to the Application Process page and click the "Apply" tab. Follow the instructions and complete the online application. Students should select the "Study Abroad Programme and Study Abroad Bridge" option in the application.

Some of this information may be repeated from your ISEP application but we need you to submit it again so that it goes directly into our system. It should only take a few minutes to complete. Students will not be confirmed without submitting the internal application. Here are some guidance notes to help:

- In the ‘Further Information’ section, ISEP students should select the option “My home university or sponsor will pay tuition to Bristol for me” and put ISEP as your sponsor

- ISEP students do not need to have their application form signed by a departmental coordinator, however we do require you to print and sign your form to comply with our Data Protection regulations.

- Please note that we are not able to guarantee unit choices and your classes will be confirmed when you arrive in Bristol.

- Once we have processed your application, your Offer Letter will contain details about how to apply for accommodation (housing) and visas. Please note that as an ISEP student, you are guaranteed accommodation at Bristol if you adhere to all of the University of Bristol application and acceptance deadlines, so don't worry if you get any messages about accommodation not being guaranteed in the Spring. If you have opted to have a ‘meal plan’ when you applied through ISEP, you will need to choose a ‘catered’ hall. If you did not opt for a meal plan, you will need to choose a self-catered hall. We will send more information when the housing portal opens later in the year.

Additional internal Bristol application forms will be sent to students after placement is made and Bristol completes a review of the application. An official offer letter from Bristol will only be issued when a student has completed both the ISEP application and the Bristol Study Abroad application.

Other Academic Conditions

MANDATORY INTERNAL APPLICATION must be submitted with the ISEP Application. Details found in "Special Application Instructions" section under "Academics" above (expand section to view).

Minimum Requirements: Junior status with  a 3.0 GPA equivalent required.  Strong Sophomores will be considered only if they have completed at least two semesters of coursework. Students must take at least one module related to their major. Students with a GPA of below 3.0 may be considered on a case-by-case basis if there are mitigating circumstances.

*Course syllabi are NOT available in advance.  Please use the "Intended Learning Outcomes" for all course approvals.

*Some subjects may require students to be majoring in those subjects or for students to meet pre-requisite conditions.

CLOSED to incoming students: Clinical Sciences, Dentistry, Veterinary Sciences, Health Science Education, and all postgraduate levels.

**Students are responsible for staying until the end of the semester and may not leave before the final date of their semester exams. Neither ISEP nor Bristol can guarantee an early departure; leaving early may result in a failing exam grade and/or forfeit of credit.
