Other Academic Conditions

Academic Program Notes:

• Massey University’s Global Student Athlete program allows male and female student-athletes to combine international coaching and training with one or two semesters of overseas study. Students will train with the elite athletes of the Manawatū region and have opportunities to engage with both professional athletes and New Zealand representatives of their respective sports.

Strength and Conditioning provides athletes from any sport with structured personal training sessions to improve their stamina and fitness.

Elite Sport Services combine comprehensive workshops, performance tracking, and a sport centre membership.

Rugby is an opportunity for overseas rugby players to train alongside professional coaches and athletes in New Zealand.

Equestrian gives experienced riders three riding sessions per week, focusing on dressage or showjumping, and all necessary equipment for your horse.

Cricket includes coaching by international players, weekly training sessions, placement into a local cricket team, and enrolment in Elite Sport Services.

• Students with a strong background in communication, journalism, or marketing can apply for a full semester internship.  The Communication Internship involves a placement in a media company, for-profit business, community arts agency, sports organisation, governmental department, or global non-profit.  Internships are available on all three Massey campuses during semester 1 and 2. The internship will serve as one of the four courses you take at Massey during the semester.

• Business internships are available on the Palmerston North-Manawatū Campus.

• Students interested in taking courses at the New Zealand School of Music or the College of Creative Arts should consult special application instructions for audition tape and portfolio submission requirements.

• Massey University follows the Southern Hemisphere calendar. If you are considering studying for a full-year in New Zealand, you should consider starting your program at the beginning of Massey’s academic year in February.

Programs are called “qualifications” in New Zealand and a program area of focus is called a “specialization”.  Classes are called both “courses” and “papers”.  Most courses are worth 15 credits per semester.  Students can expect to spend 10 hours per week attending lectures and required discussions, completing readings and assignments.
