Summer in Mexico - Undergraduate Research (in English, Spanish) - ISEP Exchange
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
• Nestled in a valley in central Mexico, the charming university town of Guanajuato is a UNESCO world heritage site that features narrow, winding streets, colonial-era plazas and beautiful architecture.
• ISEP students immerse themselves in Mexican culture and daily life by conducting research with Universidad de Guanajuato faculty and living in student housing with local and international students.
• The 8-week Summer Program for Research is a great fit for students who want to gain research experience while improving their Spanish language skills.
LIFE ABROAD
Excursions & Cultural Experiences
Excursions and cultural activities are included in this program, and may include a tour of Guanajuato city, visits to locations such as San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo, México City and Teotihuacán, and the opportunity to learn traditional Mexican dances and make a traditional piñata.
Housing & Meals
Students further the immersion experience by living in student housing with local and international students during their time in Guanajuato. Students are provided with a stipend to cover 19 meals per week for the duration of the program.
Explore Guanajuato
Located in the middle of Mexico’s central highlands, this has such colorful architecture, a continuously festive atmosphere, a deep mining history, and a cool mountain setting. Located just one hour from the charming town of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato is at its heart a university town.
Course Description
Students join a Universidad de Guanajato professor-led group of 3-6 local and international students to develop and complete an academic research project. A research report is prepared and presented at an end-of-summer conference. If selected, the student's research project may be considered for publication. Program Activities:
- Team research

- Possible publication of materials resulting from the research
- Cultural immersion activity
This program has 80 contact hours with the faculty leader and students are expected to work on their research project individually for about 160 hours over the course of 8 weeks (240 hours, 8hrs/week day during program dates). Students will receive 6 credits for this program.

Academics
Other Academic Conditions
An elementary level of Spanish is recommended, but not required, for daily interactions. Research may be conducted in English, Spanish or French depending on the student's language abilities.
