This program provides a strong foundation in French composition, grammar, and conversation alongside culture electives. Intermediate and Advanced tracks are available, and students can take electives in the arts, humanities, engineering, sciences, and business alongside local French and international students at local universities

Two or three day-long excursions are planned each semester to introduce you to the unique character of southern France. These day excursions are included in your program fees. In addition, the program’s social assistants organize activities in Montpellier to help you get to know the city and to provide you with opportunities to meet French students. Optional longer excursions are also organized by the Program Center staff during the semester and are offered at an extra cost if there is sufficient interest.

Students may choose between four different housing options in Montpellier. The cost of the homestay includes 16 meals per week , while the other housing options do not include the cost of meals. Additional information about each housing option and tips about budgeting for meals cam be found in the Housing & Meals Guide

Course Description

The Language & Culture Program focuses on French language, humanities and the liberal arts with electives available in many fields of study. There are two different tracks available and students should select their track level to see detailed course offerings according to their level of French.

Choose from a mix of elective courses taught in French and English, offered exclusively for French language learners. Students in the Advanced Track are also required to enroll directly in at least one regular university course in French alongside local students. Students can pick from a wide variety of courses, but some of the most common areas of study students elect to enroll in are: history, literature, business administration and economics, communications, social sciences, environmental and life sciences, and music.

To meet your needs and take full advantage of Montpellier's many opportunities, the course selection process is individualized and the academic program is tailored. Most students enroll in 5 courses (30 ECTS/15 U.S. credits) per semester.
