Study in Puerto Rico - Western Coast (in English, Spanish) - ISEP Exchange
University of Puerto Rico’s Mayagüez campus is located in the country’s third-largest city, considered to be the “capital” of the west coast. As a strategic seaport, Mayagüez has an international and cosmopolitan flair. The city also boasts an impressive arts scene, with the historic Teatro Yagüez at the center of it all. A large student population means there is always something going on in Mayagüez, with the many nightlife and restaurant options especially popular among the university crowd. Just minutes outside of the city, white sand beaches make for a perfect daytrip.
Founded in 1903, the University of Puerto Rico is the main public university system of Puerto Rico. The university is comprised of eleven campuses throughout the country, two of which (Rio Piedras and Mayagüez) are open to ISEP students. Mayagüez is the second-largest campus in the university system in terms of student population, and also hosts the university’s agricultural sciences and ABET-accredited engineering programs. University of Puerto Rico is ranked as the 42nd best university in Latin America by QS World University Rankings.
ISEP students immerse themselves in Puerto Rican culture and daily life by taking university classes with local students and living in a student apartment in the community. The university has an active student body, and ISEP students can participate in sports teams, cultural activities and student groups. UPR has a "buddy system" to help connect ISEP students with local students and adjust to life in Mayaguez!

The list of courses will be broken down by course year and semester. Courses offered during the first year are entry level courses, and courses in subsequent years may have prerequisites.
Courses listed as Primer Semestre are offered in the Fall and Segundo Semestre in the Spring. Some courses may be electives which can be taken either semester.
If you need access to course syllabi, please contact your SSO.
Course Restrictions:
Only undergraduate programs (Bachilleratos) are available to ISEP students. However, there may be some upper-division courses which students can take assuming they meet the prerequisites. Graduate students can study at Mayagüez but must enroll in undergraduate courses.
Enrollment in courses in the following fields may be limited due to space availability: biology, chemistry, physics, business administration (accounting and computer systems), psychology and modern languages.
All students must submit an ISEP Language Evaluation for Spanish with their ISEP application. Students enrolling in courses taught in Spanish must have at least a B1 level. Students enrolling mainly in courses taught in English are highly recommended to have at least an A2 level in Spanish. A full course load in English is not guaranteed. Students should expect to use Spanish on a daily basis, even if taking courses fully in English.
