Study in Puerto Rico - Western Coast (in English, Spanish) - ISEP Exchange
University of Puerto Rico’s Mayagüez campus is located in the country’s third-largest city, considered to be the “capital” of the west coast. As a strategic seaport, Mayagüez has an international and cosmopolitan flair. The city also boasts an impressive arts scene, with the historic Teatro Yagüez at the center of it all. A large student population means there is always something going on in Mayagüez, with the many nightlife and restaurant options especially popular among the university crowd. Just minutes outside of the city, white sand beaches make for a perfect daytrip.
Founded in 1903, the University of Puerto Rico is the main public university system of Puerto Rico. The university is comprised of eleven campuses throughout the country, two of which (Rio Piedras and Mayagüez) are open to ISEP students. Mayagüez is the second-largest campus in the university system in terms of student population, and also hosts the university’s agricultural sciences and ABET-accredited engineering programs. University of Puerto Rico is ranked as the 42nd best university in Latin America by QS World University Rankings.
ISEP students immerse themselves in Puerto Rican culture and daily life by taking university classes with local students and living in a student apartment in the community. The university has an active student body, and ISEP students can participate in sports teams, cultural activities and student groups. UPR has a "buddy system" to help connect ISEP students with local students and adjust to life in Mayaguez!
