Study in Madrid - Business and Computer Science (in Spanish) - ISEP Exchange
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio's Business and Tech campus is located in the center of Madrid. Students participating on the Study in Madrid - Business and Computer Science program will take classes at the Madrid campus and live in Madrid. Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio was the first accredited private university in Spain, gaining its charter from Spanish Parliament with the goal of educating students for the competitive world market. The campus is modern and green, and the university takes pride in its close ties to the business community and use of innovative technology.
ISEP students immerse themselves in Spanish culture by taking university classes with local students and living in a shared apartment in the community. The university has an active student body, and ISEP students can participate in sports teams, cultural activities and student groups. Excursions to popular tourist destinations in Spain are also planned each semester.
HOUSING AND MEALS
Students will receive a combined monthly housing and meal stipend. The UAX Office of International Relations will connect students with City Life Madrid for finding housing in the city. While the international office assists students in finding appropriate housing, students are ultimately responsible for arranging their own housing, signing their housing contract and paying monthly rent with their stipend.
In order to receive their ISEP stipend students are required to open a local bank account after their arrival in Spain. Due to the administrative procedures involved, the first stipend payment takes up to four weeks to disburse. Students should have sufficient funds to cover expenses during this initial period (housing and meals, refundable housing deposit, etc.) and budget accordingly. The first stipend payment will include benefits beginning from students' arrival date. All ISEP students are expected to budget their housing and meal stipend to pay rent and purchase groceries and meals. Students can ask their ISEP Student Services Coordinator for tips, as well as checking out ISEP's resources for Budgeting for Study Abroad.
Course Description
At the Madrid campus, Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio offers courses taught in Spanish in subjects such as Computer Science, Business Administration, Marketing, Business Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and more. One Spanish as a second language course is included in ISEP benefits.
Tips for finding courses:
1. View the list of departments and subjects. Make sure the page is filtered by "Grados" as the type of study, and "Madrid Chamberí" as the campus, on the left-hand side. If you're interested in a degree program offered at the Villanueva de la Cañada campus, let your SSO know and they can switch your program.
2. Click on the department name, scroll down and click "Programa".
3. Scroll down and click on “Asignaturas y Plan de Estudios Grado en <department name>” from the drop-down menu.
4. The courses are organized by semester and year. “Primer Curso” refers to first-year courses, “Segundo Curso” refers to second-year courses, etc. Within each year, there are year-long courses called “asignaturas anuales” (September – June) and semester long courses labeled “cuatrimestre”. Courses in the “Primer cuatrimestre” run September – January and courses in the “Segundo Cuatrimestre” run February – June.
5. Some subjects also have a list of “Asignaturas Optativas,” which are elective courses.
6. Click on the course name to view the syllabus.

Academics
Other Academic Conditions
This program is taught entirely in Spanish and is best suited for students with a B2-C1 level of Spanish in order to navigate daily life in Spain. Students with a B1 in Spanish are eligible to attend but are highly encouraged to continue studying Spanish prior to arrival and should enroll in the Spanish as a second language course included in the program offering.
Students must register for a minimum of 24 ECTS and a maximum of 30 ECTS. 1 ECTS = 0.5 U.S. credits, so a 6 credit course in Spain is equivalent to a 3 credit course in the U.S. Your home university ultimately determines credit conversion.
Students are only able to take courses offered on the Madrid Chamberí campus which is where all Business and Computer Science courses are offered. If you have any questions about what courses are offered on which campus, please contact your Student Services Officer.
