PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

• Masaryk University offers courses in English in a wide variety of disciplines, including business, global studies, education, strategic communications, biology, computer science, criminal justice, film studies, and more.
• With more than 30,000 students, Masaryk offers all the amenities of a large university, but remains friendly and accessible. Each ISEP student receives a “buddy” that can help them navigate Brno and get settled into life at MUNI.
• Just 2.5 hours from Prague and 2 hours from Vienna, weekend trips throughout Central and Eastern Europe are affordable and accessible by train and bus.
LIFE ABROAD
Walkable and bikeable, Brno is a relaxed college town with lively town squares, farmer’s markets, outdoor dining, cute courtyards, breweries, pubs, and coffee shops. Great museums, art galleries, historic architecture, and city parks make it easy to stay busy. On campus, courses are available in most fields of study, with excellent options in international and global studies, political science, education, and communication.
LIVE
Live right on campus! At Masaryk, you’ll have access to a furnished, shared room with access to a bathroom and kitchenette. A cafeteria, snack bar, and spaces to relax and exercise are available nearby. Please note, ISEP Direct students pay their housing fees directly to the residence hall in Brno. Masaryk University arranges housing for ISEP students based on the number of days they stay in the residence. ISEP Direct students should plan for approximately $1120 USD for housing for a semester. Housing will be arranged for all ISEP Exchange students.
DINE
Czech food is all about comfort and warmth—think dumplings, fried cheese, creamy sauces, and potato pancakes! Brno has lots of restaurants and coffee shops to enjoy, or you can cook with friends in the shared dorm kitchen. Multiple grocery stores within walking distance of campus make it easy to do some shopping to stock your pantry, and on-campus “canteens” (dining halls) provide affordable and quick meals. ISEP Direct students should plan to budget $230-$300 USD for meals and groceries each month for a comfortable lifestyle.
EXPERIENCE
Enjoy a guided city tour and a crash-course on Czech language and culture during Orientation Week. On campus, be sure to ask your “buddy” for their top Brno recommendations. Attend the student activities fair to find ways to get involved and make local friends. Sign up during orientation week for multi-day excursions (for an affordable price) to top destinations like Budapest, Vienna, and Krakow.
EXPLORE
Prague, Bratislava, Vienna, Budapest and Krakow are within easy reach by train and bus. Just outside Brno, the Moravian highlands offer outstanding opportunities for hiking, bicycling, and skiing. To the south, spend a few days enjoying the local wine region’s countless ancient cellars, which are easy to explore by bike!

Brno is a classic European college town—affordable, fun, beautiful, and well-connected to the rest of Europe. It’s a great base for a semester because you can take classes you need and stay busy during the week and travel easily on the weekends!

Credits Earned
Students who complete the program in good standing can expect to earn 24-30 ECTS which ISEP recommends is the equivalent of 12-15 U.S. Credit Hours. Each course will usually be worth 5-6 ECTS.

How to find available classes
Students should use the website for course availability link above to search for courses offered each semester. If courses are not currently listed for the semester you intend to apply, please use the courses that were offered for the previous academic year as a reference point for the courses that will likely be offered during your semester or year abroad.
Students can take courses across faculties however, it is recommended that students take the majority of their courses within one faculty.
Czech language course
Masaryk University offers a Czech language course called Colourful Czech for Foreigners. While knowledge of the Czech language is not a requirement for this program, students are encouraged to enroll to get a better understanding of the local language and culture!
