Universidad de Almería is located in the sunny capital city of the Andalucía region. Situated along the Mediterranean coast, this region is home to beautiful beaches, national parks and historic villages. The mid-sized city of Almería is nestled between a beach and a mountain range, with a mediaeval Moorish fortress, the Alcazaba, overlooking the city. The urban city center is well connected to the historic quarter, the bustling boardwalk and the university campus.

Universidad de Almeria, founded in 1993, aims to contribute to the economic and social development of the Andalucía region. It is one of the youngest universities in Spain, and takes pride in its modern facilities and innovative research programs. The university has a large international student population, with nearly 700 foreign students enrolling each year.

ISEP students immerse themselves in Spanish culture and daily life by taking university classes with local students and living in a shared student apartment or residence hall in Almería. The university has an active student body, and ISEP students can participate in sports teams, cultural activities and student groups. Students also have an opportunity to complete an internship or volunteer while studying at Universidad de Almería.

Course Description

UAL offers courses in Spanish in subjects such as business, health sciences, engineering, physical sciences and education. Spanish as a second language courses are offered for an additional fee.

Business is the only undergraduate subject where students can take several courses in English. While some courses are offered in English in other departments, undergraduate students should also plan to take courses in Spanish.  There are additional graduate-level offerings in English in the fields of agriculture and agricultural engineering, business and economics, and English studies.

Upper-level undergraduate students may register for graduate-level coursework, provided they meet the pre-requisites for the course.

"Optativas" are interesting introductory-level elective courses offered at UAL. It is recommended that students take an "optativa" class to balance out their course schedule.

Optativas offered for the 2022-2023 Academic Year

Other Academic Conditions

It is strongly recommended that students only take courses in subjects they are studying at their home university, and that they register for the majority of their courses in one Facultad to avoid schedule conflicts.

Students must register for a minimum of 24 ECTS and a maximum of 30 ECTS. 1 ECTS = 0.5 U.S. credits, so a 6 credit course in Spain is equivalent to a 3 credit course in the U.S. Your home university ultimately determines credit conversion.

All students must submit an ISEP Language Evaluation for Spanish with their application. Students taking all courses in English must have at least an A2 level of Spanish. Students taking courses in Spanish must have at least a B2 level of Spanish. The host institution ultimately determines your proficiency level and course eligibility.
