Course Description

Universidad Católica del Uruguay offers courses taught entirely in Spanish in subjects such as business, arts, communications, social sciences, health sciences, psychology and engineering. UCU is an AACSB accredited business school, having met the highest-quality standards for business programs globally.

Similar to Universities in the United States, UCU offers Minors which allow students to complement their main degree program with an interdisciplinary area of study organized around a central theme. Coursework in the following minors is recommended and may be of particular interest to international exchange students:

Doing Business in Latin America (some courses taught in English)

Estudios Latinoamericanos

Ética Aplicada

Innovación y Emprendimiento

Intervención e Innovación Social

One Spanish as a second language course is also included in ISEP benefits. Students may also choose to enroll in the pre-semester intensive Spanish language course, not included in ISEP benefits.

Credits Earned

Students typically take 4 - 6 courses. Most courses are 4 or 6 credits, and it is recommended that students take 24 credits (12 US credits). 1 credit is equivalent to 25 hours of student activity, but in class and outside of class.

Students can take Majors, Minors and elective courses at UCU. Of particular interest, international exchange students can complete an entire Minor in one semester by taking 24 credits of coursework in that Minor.

Tips for Finding Courses:

Students can search by Major, Minor, and add core elective courses. Courses are organized by year. Please note that not every course will be available each semester, so please select additional back-up options.

1. Major Search: https://carreras.ucu.edu.uy/programas/

- Filter by 'Campus Motevideo' and 'Presencial' (in-person).

- Select your desired program, scroll down to 'Plan de Estudios' to see which courses for the major are offered each year, and which elective and core courses are available.

2. Minor Search: https://carreras.ucu.edu.uy/programas/minors

- Filter by 'Campus Montevideo' and 'Presencial'.

 - Select your desired minor, scroll down to 'Cursos Que Componen el Minor' to see the available courses that make up the minor. Usually, there are a total of potential credits of 50 - 70, however, students only need to take 24 credits of required courses to complete a minor.

- Example: Doing Business in Latin America minor offers 68 credits in total. Students can take 3 courses which are specific to this major offered in English: Agribusiness in Latin America, Business Strategies to Enter Latin American Markets, and Logistics and Supply Chains in Latin America.

When reviewing Majors and Minors, please don't hesitate to reach out to your ISEP Student Services Officer (SSO) if you need help or access to syllabi.

UCU offers a number of experiential learning opportunities through their Centro Berit (Service Learning/Community Engagement center) and Centro Practicum (On-Campus professional development and internship office). Students can take advantage of these centers when they arrive on campus.

UCU's Centro Agora (Library services office) offers a variety of student services and facilities including tutoring, data bases for research, study and library training for students.
