PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Barcelona Program for Interdisciplinary Studies (BaPIS) is Universitat Pompeu Fabra's cornerstone Education Abroad program. By breaking down the barriers between knowledge areas, it promotes an interdisciplinary perspective and the effective cross-fertilization of ideas and initiatives. With its hands-on approach and courses combining the STEM disciplines, Communications, Humanities and Social Sciences, BaPIS offers a unique opportunity for developing and deepening intellectual creativity.

The Barcelona Program for Interdisciplinary Studies provides an immersive environment, with courses open to both international students from all over the word and local undergraduate students at UPF. All instructors on the program are high-profile UPF faculty members with a distinguished research trajectory and proven international academic experience, who, together with the highly motivated students that participate, form the bedrock of the program.

In addition to content-based courses, the Barcelona Program for Interdisciplinary Studies includes the option to take Spanish language courses at all levels. Five different levels are offered, from beginner to proficient and even Spanish for heritage speakers.

UPF Education Abroad programs encourage experiential learning through cultural activities and on-site classes in the BaPIS curriculum. Courses include hands-on workshops, faculty-guided trips to relevant sites and institutions, course-related tours, company visits, seminars and sessions by guest speakers in which they share their expertise and perspectives.  ISEP's programs in Barcelona also offer benefits above and beyond a typical ISEP program, including a dedicated onsite Resident Director.

HOUSING

ISEP students are accommodated in Campus del Mar Residence Hall. The residence is located in the famous neighborhood of La Barceloneta, within walking distance to the UPF campus. Rooms are double-occupancy and include an en-suite bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen. Bedding packs can be purchased prior to arrival for an additional fee and include a weekly change of sheets and towels.

Meals are not included in this program. Students will be expected to use their own funds for meals and budget accordingly. Students can ask their ISEP Student Services Officer for tips, as well as check out ISEP's resources for Budgeting for Study Abroad.

Course Description

Students can view below the courses offered in the BaPIS for Spring 2022.

Students may combine courses at the BaPIS with cross-enrollment in other UPF Education Abroad programs, including the International Business Program and regular UPF courses in their field of study. Enrollment in a Spanish as a Second Language course is also highly encouraged.

Students enroll in 24-30 ECTS per semester, which is generally equivalent to 12-15 U.S. credits. Given the rigor of the UPF curriculum, it is reccomended that students consider enrolling in 24 ECTS if their home university requirements allow for this option.

Course Offerings:

 - UPF Spanish Language Courses

Spanish as a second language courses grant 12 ECTS (6 U.S. credits) and are offered at five levels, from Beginner to Proficient (A1-C2). A Spanish for heritage-speakers course is also offered each term.

 - BaPIS Spring 2022 Courses:

All BaPIS courses grant 6 ECTS (3 U.S. credits)
