• Spend 4 weeks in Germany in the fairy-tale pretty college town of Marburg (it even inspired the Brothers Grimm!)
  • Stroll along the river, spend time in the picturesque old town, tour Marburg Castle, and climb up Kaiser Wilhelm Tower for panoramic views of the city
  • Study beginning and intermediate German language while learning about German history and politics
  • Visit Frankfurt, Weimar, and Strasbourg (France) on the included field-trips and over-night excursion

Hessen International Summer University is a month-long summer program with intensive German language courses and academic seminars in the fields of History, Politics, Society, and Culture.

Excursions & Cultural Experiences

Three excursions are built into this program to match the coursework you will be studying!

  • All students participate in a three-day, all inclusive field trip to Strasbourg, France. You will learn about the local history and its importance in the European Union as well as its role in WWII.
  • Two other weekend trips will take place, one to Frankfurt and the other to Weimar where you will learn important cultural information and will have free time to explore the cities!

Single-room housing is included in the program fee. Accomodations have shared bathroom and kitchen access. Both local German students and international student are housed at this location. Accessible housing options are also available.

A full meal plan is not included in the program fee, however snacks and occasional meals are included in the program. Students will use their own funds to cover remaining meal costs but will have access to cooking facilities, grocery stores, street food, and restaurants. We recommend students plan to have 300-400 euros to pay for food while abroad, depending on their lifestyle.

Explore Marburg

Marburg is truly a university town with the academic buildings spread throughout. But that's not the only thing to see! Marburg is filled with rich culture and museums are scattered throughout the city. Spend and afternoon paddling down the Lahn River or go out and try a Hessen style beer with lemonade and fruit! With your student card, transportation by bus is free.
