Study in Kyoto Program (in English, Japanese)
The Study in Kyoto Program (SKP) brings together students from around the world. It offers numerous courses in Japanese language and culture, utilizing the extensive historical and cultural resources of the ancient city of Kyoto. The program also offers courses in English regarding both Japan-related and business subjects. Students have access to over 700 student-run clubs on campus and a rich cultural environment bustling with history and tradition just beyond the doorstep. Students who study abroad at Ritsumeikan University have incredible stories to share when returning home.
All ISEP students will attend the Intensive Japanese Language (IJL) track. Students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in Ritsumeikan's Japanese placement test (Level VII) will be assigned to Japanese language courses designed for degree-seeking international students. Students will take three language lessons per week, and will also take regular classes held in Japanese, subject to course approval.
What do ISEP students think about their programs in Japan?
Course Description
Students attending Ritsumeikan University through ISEP will be enrolled in the Study in Kyoto Program's Intensive Japanese Language Track (IJL): Class sizes are kept small, between 10-15 students, allowing experienced instructors to cater to the needs of each student of all skill levels.
Students may also enroll in Introduction to Traditional Japanese Arts, courses providing a unique hands-on opportunity to experience traditional culture. Traditional arts courses have covered topics such as calligraphy, Japanese confectionary, shamisen, ceramics, the tea ceremony, and ikebana.
Beyond their IJL requirements, students can take electives from the Business and Open Study in English tracks. Note that the business campus is about an hour commute from the Kinugasa campus, so students will need to organize Business courses on a separate day from their other courses if they plan to take Business electives.
Students interested in taking classes taught in Japanese can look through Ritsumeikan's degree-seeking academics pages here (Japanese only).
