PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

• Soak up the warm, coastal climate while exploring fast-paced city life in Taichung, known for its gorgeous landscape and welcoming atmosphere

• Take coursework in English in fields such as Business or Computer Science, with the option to complement your studies with Chinese language courses available for all proficiency levels.

• Find your community through on-campus sports teams such as basketball, volleyball, dance, and bowling.

LIVE and DINE

Stay in the heart of campus in same-sex student dormitories in a shared room with up to four people. Alternatively, choose to receive a stipend, issued once during the semester, to live in a single room suite in an off-campus dorm. No matter your housing, you’ll receive a monthly cash meal stipend from PU (with a bonus added during Chinese New Year) for use at the food courts, convenience stores, campus cafeterias, and anywhere off campus. Complete your travel experience by sampling local cuisine with dishes like hot pot, gua bao (Taiwanese Hamburger), zong zi (sticky rice dumpling), and Taiwanese fried chicken.

EXPERIENCE

Home to bubble tea and cat cafes, dive into the sights and sounds of bustling Taichung, the largest city in central Taiwan. Experience its natural beauty whilewandering through the sprawling Houli Forest Park, admiring the Taoshan waterfall, or riding along the 14-km Tanya Shen Green Bikeway. Immerse yourself in Taiwanese culture during local celebrations, like the Houli Cherry Blossom Festival or National Fireworks Day. Use the high-speed rail to travel to other major cities Taipei and Kaohsiung in under an hour. Explore further through optional excursions organized by PU; example trips include the Gao-Mei wetlands, Sun Moon Lake, and Hehuanshan mountain.

What We Love About Taichung

We love that Taichung offers the pace and variety of metropolitan life in East Asia, while being one of the most inclusive and linguistically diverse cities in the region, with Hokkien (Taiwanese), Mandarin, Hakka, and English all spoken.
