Study in the U.S.A. - Southeast (in English) - ISEP Exchange
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
• Experience a quaint, green liberal arts campus in Towson, Maryland, where you get the comfort of a tight-knit college community with Baltimore’s food, arts, music, and sports scenes nearby.
• Study at Goucher College — an MSCHE accredited institution — where ISEP Exchange students can take courses in fields like international relations, political science, psychology, economics, and business, or explore unique courses in integrative data analytics, visual and material culture, and professional and creative writing.
• Join a close-knit campus community with small class sizes, strong student support, multiple dining options, an arts center, athletic facilities, a Pilates Center, and even an equestrian riding arena!
LIVE and DINE
Share a furnished double room in an on-campus residence hall located in the First-Year Village, designed to encourage students to come together to cook, share, and learn with a common room, soundproof study rooms, shared bathrooms and a full kitchen on each floor. You’ll also have access to shared community spaces, including a large room with movie projector, a game room with a pool table, TV, and board games, a dance studio, a demo kitchen, and laundry facilities in each residence hall.
You’ll receive a meal plan consisting of 19 meals per week to use at on-campus dining locations, including Goucher Residential at Mary Fisher, the Student Market, the Kosher Dining Hall, and Alice’s Restaurant. When you’re looking to try something local, head off campus for Maryland favorites like steamed blue crabs and Berger cookies!
EXPERIENCE
Get connected through Goucher’s International Student Association which hosts international community dinners, and Global Conversation Hour where students from around the world come together to share perspectives and build community. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to get involved through campus-wide events – concerts, film screenings, and lectures – and campus traditions like the opening celebration of new and returning students, family weekend in fall, and Get Into Goucher (GIG) – a May Day celebration with the ringing of chapel bells, carnival rides, games, food, and music.
Spend your free time touring Baltimore's Broadway productions at the historic Hippodrome Theatre, shopping at local farmers markets, exploring the American Visionary Art Museum, cheering at a Baltimore Orioles or Ravens games, or even taking a train to nearby cities like Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and New York.
ACADEMIC TRAINING
Students studying abroad in the United States have the opportunity to participate in an Academic Training Internship that directly relates to their field of study at their ISEP host institutions. Learn more about Academic Training in the United States.
What We Love About Goucher College
We love that you can study at a small, supportive liberal arts college where the campus community feels personal, but you’re still close to the energy of Baltimore and the wider East Coast. Goucher is a great fit if you want discussion-based classes, high-touch support, and a home base that makes it easy to explore Maryland, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and beyond.
Course Description
Goucher College offers superior academics and hands-on teaching. ISEP students can take courses from any discipline as long as the courses are available, and the student has the required pre-requisite classes.
Goucher's liberal arts curriculum provides students with a wide variety of program options. The most popular are international relations, psychology, business, economics, integrative arts, and biological sciences. Goucher also offers new and exciting fields, including Integrative Data Analytics, Engineering Science, Visual and Material Culture, and Professional and Creative Writing.
Please note, however, that exchange students should be prepared to take courses in areas outside their major in addition to major requirements. Be sure to check out the "Complex Problem Exploration" courses that look at current issues from a variety of perspectives. For example, "Disease and Discrimination" explores the impact of politics, economics, and race on the issue of public health.

How to search for courses:
To search for classes, use the Course Catalog. In the filters, narrow your options by selecting the appropriate department and the "Program" choice of "Undergraduate." (Do not choose the filter "College" despite the coding for ISEP Exchange.) When you find a course of interest to you, click on "Find Sections." You can then search for classes by "Period" for the term you wish to study, do not select a "Session." Semester terms are called "Spring" and "Fall." Winter and Summer term classes are not part of the semester ISEP programs.
Academic limitations:
Baltimore Exchange Program (BSEP): Exchange students are only allowed to take a class through BSEP if they are here for the entire year and are taking the BSEP class in their second semester at Goucher.
Academic Calendar
Typical Fall Schedule: August through December
• Arrival and orientation: early or mid-August
• Exams: Early December
Typical Spring Schedule: January through May
• Arrival and orientation: late January
• Final Exams: mid-May
Departure Notes
Students are responsible for staying until the end of the semester and may not leave before the final date of their semester exams. Neither ISEP nor Goucher College can guarantee an early departure; leaving early may result in a failing exam grade and/or forfeit of credit.
PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.
VISA/RESIDENCE PERMIT: Most students attending this program will be required to obtain a visa/residence permit. For more information on the process and estimated cost, please review the ISEP Country Handbook here.
