LIVE and DINE
Live in a private room in a shared apartment on the Vaihingen campus with 4-7 other students. Most international exchange students are housed on this campus, where most academic buildings are located, making it easy to get to class from your accommodations. You’ll have access to a shared kitchen and bathroom in your unit.
Use your monthly meal stipend at one of the many dining locations on campus or at nearby discount grocery stores such as Netto Marken-Discount and Frischemarkt Roth Supermarkt. If you’re looking for a change of pace from on-campus dining or cooking at home, hop on the metro and head into the city center, where you can enjoy regional favorites such as Schwäbische Maultaschen, pasta pockets filled with vegetables or meat and often served in broth, and Flädlesuppe, a comforting savory pancake soup. Round out your meal with Apfelküchle (apple fritters), a beloved German sweet treat.
EXPERIENCE
Explore southwestern Germany with excursions offered by the international office or the Erasmus Student Network (ESN). Typical excursions include trips to Lake Constance, Heidelberg, and the Black Forest. Get paired with a local student through the buddy program, which offers activities throughout the semester such as tote bag painting, cooking, and movie nights. The buddy program also coordinates excursions at the beginning of the semester, including visits to the Mercedes-Benz Museum, the zoo, and guided city tours. Join a club or sports team during your time at Universität Stuttgart. With over 70 sports offered, from kayaking to paragliding to salsa dancing, there’s something for everyone!

SCHOLARSHIP
This program qualifies for the ISEP French and German Language Annette Kade Fund Scholarship. The scholarship awards $500 - $1,500 USD to students who are from a U.S. institution and studying French or German language in Austria, France, Germany, Reunion Island, or Switzerland. Learn more here.

Course Description
The Universität Stuttgart offers a variety of courses taught in German and in English. Students can elect to take courses in German, English, or a combination depending on their language level. A German-Language pre-session course and Semester German Language courses are highly recommended for all students.
The departments offering courses in English are as follows: History, Journalism, Business and Economics, Sociology, and English and American Studies.

Credits Earned
Students who complete the program in good standing can expect to earn 24-30 ECTS which ISEP recommends is the equivalent of 12-15 U.S. Credit Hours. Students typically enroll in 4-6 classes per term. A term runs for about 16 weeks.

Departure
Students are responsible for staying until the end of the semester and may not leave before the final date of their semester exams. Neither ISEP nor Stuttgart can guarantee an early departure; leaving early may result in a failing exam grade and/or forfeit of credit.
PASSPORT: All students must have a valid passport to participate in this program. If you do not have a valid passport, we suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.
VISA/RESIDENCE PERMIT: Most students attending this program will be required to obtain a visa/residence permit. For more information on the process and estimated cost, please review the ISEP Country Handbook here.
